Safe in Amman

I just wanted to let everyone know that me and my teammates are all ok. Yesterday a man shot 7 tourists in downtown Amman, killing one. What a welcome home present.

We are being cautious, but still feel entirely safe being here. Once again, such things can happen anywhere and I'm far more afraid of dying in a car accident.

So sending love to everyone.

I love the perspective you bring to your posts. I think it IS possible to form an opinion of the Israeli/Lebanese war (because it was Lebanon as a whole that was bombed, not just a faction within the country). But it's interesting to see that you have your finger on the pulse over there and are able to see li'l ol' Seattle through this new lens.

We all start with cultural assumptions, don't we? Even the nutters who shoot up charitable organizations thousands of miles away or tourist attractions hundreds of miles away. How often are "hate" crimes just an outlet for common or garden despair in a person whose life appears to have lost all meaning? Suddenly history intrudes and the rage becomes focused.

Stay safe! (Or perhaps it's we, here, who should be watching out. There are crazies everywhere ...!)

hey girl, glad to hear you are well and keeping it real in jordan. i love how much of yourself comes through in these. much like a cheesy sitcom in which a character is reading a letter and there is a voice over of the person who wrote the letter, reading the letter. but that voice is you. and i'm reading a computer screen, not a "dear john" letter.
